Apparently I am going to talk in front of strangers. We have a poetry cafe tomorrow in school, which is really dumb. At least I am not reading a poem that I wrote. I also spent some time after school picking out monologues and scripts in the drama room. The idea is to pick up scripts for next year's speech contest, so that we can practice over the summer. I don't think I can memorize a poem that isn't made up entirely of real words. Here is the poem "Jabberwocky" by Lewis Carrol.
Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe
All mimsy were the borogoves
And the mome raths outgrabe.
"Beware the Jabberwock, my son!
The jaws that bite, the claws that catch!
Beware the Jubjub bird, and shun
The frumious Bandersnatch!"
He took his vorpal sword in hand
Long time the manxome foe he sought-
So rested he by the Tumtum tree,
And stood awhile in thought
And, as in uffish thought he stood,
The Jabberwock, with eyes of flame,
Came whiffling through the tulgey wood,
And burbled as it came!
One, two! One, two! And through and through
The vorpal blade went snicker-snack!
He left it dead, and with its head
He went galumphing back
"And hast thou slain the Jabberwock?
Come to arms, my beamish boy!
O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!"
He chortled in his joy
'Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe
All mimsy were the borogoves
And the mome raths outgrabe.

That's my favorite poem EVER. I think. Either that or "Twas the Night Before Solstice" by James Garner. But I don't know if that counts.
Anyway, good luck!
aww...mirand comments on yours. but not mine? waaah!
Unfortunately, I completely screwed up today. Apparently I can't do poetry in front of a class of 7th graders. I'm sure she comments on your blog too, Molly.
I'm sorry it didn't go too well. Do you like performing in front of crowds?
